• Wildlife along the way
‘1,000 miles of Heather’ is a continuous walk - still ongoing. The big one thousand mile mark will come up very soon and almost coincide with arrival at Edale and the completion of the Pennine Way.
The route began with the Dales Way one dodgy Sunday several years ago, gravitated up to the Coast to Coast, meandered back across the north of England following a vaguely east to west route, sort of followed the Cumbria Way and Cumbria Coastal Way to arrive at Hadrian’s Wall. The Wall was followed to Hexham and shot north to find the beginning of the Pennine Way in the summer of 2005.
The whole route has been footslogged with very little roadwalking.
Follow the route if you wish, though you do so at your own risk. Every attempt has been made to provide accurate walking information and no blame can be attached to us if you go wrong ... we did ... often. Trust your maps and know your limitations.
